What is e-Invoicing?
e-Invoicing involves generating and exchanging invoice data in a structured digital format — not PDF, Word, or scanned copies — and submitting it directly to the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) in real time.
Why Is the UAE Implementing It?
The programme is part of a national push toward digitalization and fiscal transparency, offering the following benefits:
Digitalization Reduce manual work in tax and business processes by moving to a digital-first system. | Efficiency Save time and cut costs by automating invoicing and reducing paper usage. | Digital Economy Support the UAE’s shift to a tech-driven economy and enable digital talent to thrive. | Minimize VAT Leakage Detects and prevents VAT fraud or errors through structured, trackable invoicing. |
Economic Contribution Boost national growth by using real-time data and modern reporting tools. | Security Improve protection against fraud through encrypted and secure transactions. | Better Policy Decisions Give government access to real-time data to support smarter policies and sector-specific support. |

UAE businesses must engage with an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) to issue and receive e-Invoices. Service Providers who want to provide Electronic Invoicing Services in the UAE must obtain accreditation from the MoF.
What Should Businesses Do Now?
As the first phase of e-invoicing is expected to commence in July 2026, all businesses issuing invoices B2B/B2G in the UAE should:
- Stay updated with the regulations and timeline by regularly checking MoF and FTA website.
- Review existing accounting and invoicing systems and processes.
- Carefully select ASP that meets company specific needs and offers seamless integration.
- Train all relevant staff and update internal procedures and policies to align with the e-invoicing framework.
